Working with Custom Tabs / Sections

RunnerSpace has default tabs such as photos, videos, news, and blogs, which house most of your content without the need for any extra tabs.  You can, however, create custom tabs when one of the default tabs isn't specific enough or you would like to highlight something.  You can also create sections and folders within these custom tabs to further organize your content.

Some good examples of content that would work within the default tabs, but would stick out more if it were its own tab, could be a list of your sponsors / supporters, a donation page, list of favorite links, a detailed contact page, etc.

Let's set up a custom tab.

1. Once you are logged in, go to the bottom editor bar on your page and click on the Edit Profile or Settings button.  In this menu, click New Section.

2. After you have clicked this button, your new section has been created, and is titled, "New Section."

3. You can now edit this section by clicking on the button that says, "Edit Mode."  The custom tabs have two views, a "View Mode" and an "Edit Mode."  (See above picture.)  The "View Mode" is meant to show you what the general public would see when viewing this tab or section.  The "Edit Mode" is only seen by you, the editor, and acts as a backend for this specific tab / section.

4. We will first rename the tab / section called "New Section."  To do this, make sure you are in the "Edit Mode" and scroll down to the area that says, "Other Editor Options."  You will see a field that says, "Section: New Section" with a "Rename" button to the right of it.

Rename the words "New Section" with whatever title you would like.  This will replace the tab / section title in your menu bar after you click the "Rename" button.

5. Now click on your newly titled tab / section and make sure you are in the edit mode.  You can now create a page to house content under this tab / section.  To do this, click on the "Add new page" button.

6. To create this new page, simply add a title in the Title field, then add content in the text field below it.  Click here*** to learn more about our text editor to understand all the options available to you in this section.

After you have completed adding in your content, click the Save Changes button at the bottom.  You have now created a title and content of your custom tab / section.  Click on the View Mode button to see how the public will view this.

7. You are now finished with creating a custom tab / section unless you would like to add folders to further organize your content.  To create a folder, be sure you are in the Edit Mode, and click on the Create Folder button.

This will pop down and display a field that you can type into to assign a name to your new folder.

Once you have typed this name in, click the Create Folder button once again.

Repeat this as many times as you'd like to create as many folders as you need.

8. It's now time to place your custom pages that you have made into the folders you have created.  To do this, click on the unassigned folder and then click on the page that you would like to categorize in the section below.  If you have only one page, it will be displayed.  When you can see the page on the right, click on the edit button.

This will bring you back to your content page.  On the far right, you will see a dropdown next to the word, "Folder."  Click on the dropdown to choose which folder to put this content page into.

Then scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click Save Changes.

That content page is now placed within the folder you assigned it to.

You can repeat all these steps at any time as your folders and pages expand.

If you would like to delete a content page, simply click on the folder that the content page is located within then hover over the content page title in the left column under "Pages in selected folder," and click the X.

If you would like to delete a folder, simply hover over the folder name and click the X.

Note: if you delete a folder that has content pages within it, it will NOT delete those content pages.  It will simply assign them to the "Unassigned" folder.

To delete the entire tab / section and all of the folders and content pages within it, make sure you are in the Edit mode and scroll down to the bottom left column that says, "Delete Section."  Clicking on that link will delete everything at once.

WARNING: deleting any of these folders, content pages, or tabs, is not recoverable, so please be cautious when using this.
